No Fly Zone began as a phrase rather than an illustration: NO FLY ZONE. Once it was set large enough to read across a bar, at speed, in a jacket, the t-shirt needed nothing added to it.
No Fly Zone faces a constraint poster art never does: it is seen in passing, in bad light, for about two seconds. No Fly Zone is drawn for those two seconds - heavy shapes, generous spacing, no thin strokes that vanish on a dark t-shirt.
Cleveland football weather is Lake Erie weather - grey, loud, and not interested in fair-weather kits. No Fly Zone is drawn for that climate, which is why it does not need a licensed logo to feel local. It is also a chant town - "Here We Go Brownies" - so a line as short as NO FLY ZONE lands without any setup.
Because it is fan-made rather than licensed, No Fly Zone can carry NO FLY ZONE without borrowing a mark it has no right to. You are buying the sentiment behind NO FLY ZONE, not a replica.
No Fly Zone belongs to Cleveland without needing a licence to prove it. Wear it, or give it, or leave it on a shelf until Sunday - the graphic will still be NO FLY ZONE.
