The Idea Behind The Design
The starting point for Bryce 19 was the phrase itself. BRYCE 19 is short enough to print large on a t-shirt, which is why it works as apparel instead of a caption under a photograph.
Bryce 19 faces a constraint poster art never does: it is seen in passing, in bad light, for about two seconds. Bryce 19 is drawn for those two seconds - heavy shapes, generous spacing, no thin strokes that vanish on a dark t-shirt.
Ann Arbor Saturdays are maize, navy, and a crowd that treats a grudge as climate. Bryce 19 is drawn for that climate, which is why it does not need a licensed logo to feel local. The stands already supply the soundtrack ("Go Blue"); Bryce 19 only has to hold its own against that noise.
Because it is fan-made rather than licensed, Bryce 19 can carry BRYCE 19 without borrowing a mark it has no right to. You are buying the sentiment behind BRYCE 19, not a replica.
Bryce 19 is a small idea executed cleanly, which is generally what makes fan apparel get worn more than once a season. Nothing about Bryce 19 needs a second look to land.
